Impressive replica of one of the most extensive and beautiful compendiums of ornithology in the history of science.
Over 500 ornithological varieties represented, practically all the birds known at the time. This treatise on ornithology was the greatest success of the entire 17th century and a large part of the 18th century, being referenced by the great Linnaeus (Linnaeus) in his Sistema Naturae. The fame and success of this book comes from the 62 copper plates engraved by the great master Matthäus Merian, who was born in Switzerland but travelled all over Europe as far as England, where he even worked for the famous painter Van Dyck.
