Exceptionally beautiful Book of Hours dating from the second half of the 16th century (Amiens - 1569).
204 pages (135 x 95mm) of fine vellum. Private Collection.
Contains numerous illustrations, mostly signed by the great AB Normand. The artist demonstrates outstanding artistry in the treatment of faces and bodies as well as great delicacy in the composition of his backgrounds.
Of great interest are the capitals, filled with human faces, skulls and landscapes, as well as the border scrollwork, decorated with plants and fruit, imaginary animals, amazingly realistic species of fish, etc.
